What a cute baby. I love all the colors around his head. His head looks kinda too big for his body, though. Makes him all that more adorable.

Barb,
Liberty sure is cute. I just love baby birds. There is just a sweetness in their eyes.
I am sorry but I have to ask.....are you sure about his hatch date?
This web site has pictures of baby macaws and if you look down at the pictures that are marked 07 July 2004 that would make these babies about 9 weeks old and they have almost all their freathers. These babies were hatched May 1st and 3rd. Liberty looks so much younger then these birds do. :scratchch

Sorry I don't mean to be nosy.... Liberty just looked not as developed. Did your vet say anything about his size?
Give him lots of kisses from me. Enjoy him while he is so young because they grow up so fast.
He's a sweetie, his feathers look a gorgeous green colour:heart:

OMG he is a real cutie, I love his toes, one black one white and that tail oh my how that has grown, and all those beautiful colours coming in. I love the way he has forgotten all about his toys as soon as he catches sight of Mama's toes, far more interesting to play with. :funny:
As usual Bucc was sitting here with me making all his cute sounds, but as soon as we got to the last pic he just looked said "Oh no, no bite. Buccs a good boy" and flew off. :funny:
:thanx: so much for sharing your cute little guy, he is wonderful.

Thanks everyone
I would imagine birds are like our kids, they are individuals thus may vary in size, weight, and development just as my 5 yr old may be bigger or smaller than other kids her age, but still pretty much along the normal guidlines of growing.
He has been eating and growing, if you go look back at the other pics I've posted you can see a change each time I posted.
You've got to always consider other factors such as their parents genetics, how long they were in the nest and such. Maybe a factor is he was the sole egg to hatch from 3 eggs? My bird is fine and shouldn't be compared to other birds, especially if he's not too far off

Opppp sorry I didn't mean to butt in.
The lady that is president of our bird club raises baby macaws and I see her babies a lot. I didn't mean to imply anything. I know some breeders that breed a lot of birds (might have gotten) the hatch day mixed up with another baby. I don't know anything about where you got Liberty or anything. I just thought it looked young and thought maybe the dates might have gotten mixed up.
I am sorry if I offened you. I didn't mean to at all.

Ginny, it's ok. I understand how you can think mixing up dates can happen. Liberty although was the only one of 3 eggs to hatch. She only has one pair of B&G's and I went to visit him 1 wk after he was hatched. He looks pretty much on target on size and feather growth for the most part, just a little slow of late for some reason, but nothing my avian vet was concerned with. She mentioned like I did about them all being different with different variables.
Most breeders keep their babies in the nest 2-3 wks, my breeder pulled him for one reason or another at 1 wk. He has always been eating and gaining weight no problems, and here of recent gaining up to 30g's a day. He walks in a straight line, acknowledges my presence, and is starting to really play good. He's grabbing good with his claws and we are working on introducing him to a perch for practice.
I'm sorry if I came across a bit strong, but if anyone is concerned or questioning his health or development, he is a healthy happy bird. You need not worry, that is for mama to do ;)
Here is a pic I didn't share at one week old...yup that is me touching him

If you notice, his neonate down is even less than the pics of the site you showed me.

Barb,
I am glad he is doing so well. I was looking at the size and feather growth. If he was the only one then I guess there is no way to get the dates mixed up. LOL
Sorry for the question.
I am sure you are a great mama and doing a great job. Keep up the good work. :tighthug: Give him a hug from me.
Did someone say look younger? where does the line start. I'll be the first one there.;) :emot-danc :) :) :)
Barb, you are so lucky to have so many friends that lend a helping hand. If I ever decide to raise a baby I know there are plenty to help me along the way.
Love Liberty's pics! Especially, the pose in the first one. Awww, just saw the tiny pic... it's adorable and so, so, tiny.

Barb is trying to fatten the baby up and I am trying to get my fat off. Maybe I could trade her some for Liberty.

Thank you Ginny, for your kind words. LOL at the fattening comment, hehehe.
I know some may compare and question, but I promise they are all different. I have done so much research and have done the best I could possibly do with him  Even though it is my 1st time raising a baby from so little and handfeeding, I guess it comes natural to me. I have been ever so cautious in getting things right with him....after all, he's my baby ;)
Thanks Jean, I love the 1st two :agree:
I know it won't be long before he's fully feathered, he's got sprigs everywhere. Can't wait to see more of that beautiful yellow too!!

That all you can do is the best you can do. They are just like our children and we raise them and love them the best we can.
The yellow feathers have always been my favorite. It is just amazing how they can be so bright.

Sadenna, I soooo know what you mean about trying to move and momentum just keeps going and doing that toppling over bit. He had done a flip over once doing that, roflol. It's the funniest thing to see...that and him trying not to step on his own toes :p
Have you ever seen a baby Mac flap around in circles? I'm trying to decide if it's his strong feeding response that gets him going or he just loves entertaining himself. :roflmao2:
Never seen the complete somersault, close tho. I love to watch them trip over those big ole feet with their beak on the ground like a sled going as fast as they can. Hmmm.... sounds kinda weird if you didn't know they aren't getting hurt, but it's so cute to watch.
Not Sadenna :) Can't say I've ever seen the complete circle but I've seen them flapping so hard they will go all over the table if you don't have their beak in your hand. I've seen them pump so hard while flapping they are coming off the table and you would think they are going to hurt their self. Guess they probably could if you didn't watch them and be careful.

oh yeah I have seen a couple go completely over when running with their head and beak to the ground they get up shake themselves off look around as if to see if anyone saw it and go on with what they were doing as if it never happened. I also love to watch them get going and do that little combination hop and run at the same time...baby macaws are so much fun to watch..course then again so are adults our military is anything but graceful.
