The baby is hungry and begging for food... do you have a gram scale? He could be losing weight and slowly failing to thrive. Is he eating or just playing with his food, pushing it around and dropping it?
He's really too young to be fully weaned... you may have to buy some handfeeding formula, contact the breeder, and learn to handfeed him for awhile. Please get hands-on lessons first or you could kill the baby by feeding him incorrectly.
The year-old tiel is probably stressed that the baby is in there.
Ordinarily, when attempting to cage two birds together, you cage them in two separate cages side by side for a month or so, and they get to know each other. Then you move them together into a 3rd cage so there are no issues of territory to dispute. If it doesn't go smoothly, you put them back into two separate cages and let them get to know each other longer and then try again.
I'm concerned that the baby get fed properly before he loses too much weight... and if you have a gram scale, then you'll know if he's losing a few grams every day or if he's gaining. Weigh him first thing in the morning AFTER he goes to the bathroom, and before he eats.

Shirley, after reading your note I took Tiki right to the bird store where I purchased him ,they said that he was heavy for his size and yes he was sold to me at 7 weeks ,they sold me some big squarish things that I have to soak in hot water and then mix some peanut butter into and give her that along with oats [seperatly]and the crying that she is doing eith her head down they said was her bonding,I just got back and was so nervous that I left the tiel cage wide open, but Andrew never came out thank God because little bit [my dog was loose ,I don't think he would bother him but you never know.So I will continue to watch carefully and on the way there she ate some apple and wen't on every ones finger THanks again

That's not "bonding". Bonding is a relationship that forms.
Call me later tonight and I'll help you out.
Not sure about the peanut butter thing... Anyone else?
I'd be feeding soaked pellets w/syringe of baby bird formula w/syringe.
I'm on the same time zone you are... call after 9:00 your time, OK?
Meanwhile, if Sadenna sees this, she can offer more help here on the board.
What does he weigh? (a heavy bird does not equal a weaned bird)
Thanks so much for all your efforts and posting again.

That sounds real good... and after talking with you, I believe she's going to be fine, just misses her handfeedings, but sounds like she's eating sufficiently each day.

Sounds as if she misses those handfeedings also. I'd start giving her some if she really wanted it. Also the scales are a definate must. I never had any for a while, was just going on feel, but after reading a post in one of the forums I went out and got some. A few g's here or there doesn't seem like a lot to us, but to a bird they really are. Before we knew they were losing any the bird may be really sick.
(I'm not implying that your bird is losing weight, just the importance of scales) :agree:

Shirley I tried feeding her last night the way you told me but she just would have know part in it.So this morning i mixed it again and put some crushed apple in and hung it on the door where she goes when i go near the cage and she started again picking out the apple and i saw her shake her beak so i know the food got on her beak and maybe she ate some with the apple.I will watch her carefully and get a scale to weigh her.I know a small amount of lost weight in a bird is very significant thanks for all your help......Scotty

Did you try to feed her with the bent spoon? If it's handfeeding she is wanting, then she'll want it *from you* and not just soft in a cup. It sounds like she's done weaning from what you've said... and she's probably eating fine on her own. She is just being a little "needy" with all the calling.

How old is this baby? they usually don't wean till about 12-13 weeks and should not be leaving the store or breeder until then and they need to make sure they are eating well own their and no longer require handfeeding before they are going home.
Buit some that are compeletely weaned and old enough to be weaned and eating on their own may regress going into their new home.
I would not of caged this baby with your 1 year old tiel they should be in seperate cages and the new baby shold be qurantined away from your 1 year old tiel in another room for at least 35-45 days and checked out by an avian vet. But since you have already put them together quarantine is of no use now and but they should be caged seperately side by side, and it could be being with the other tiel has cause the regretion.
Babies and adults need to be weighed not just physically touched to tell if they are at a good weight. Weighing the birds is a good way to tell if a youngster is getting enough food and to know if your own bird is healthy as a massive drop in weight can indicate illness.
This baby was mostly likel syringe fed or spoon fed. Again it is old enough to be weaned it is possible it is regressed to wanting a comfort feed then you should go and buy special handfeeding formula for birds and a either use a bent spoon or you need to find a reputable breeder or even have an avian vet show you how to handfeed. And if this baby is not old enough to be weaned I would either take it back to the store and untl it is weaned or you need to have someone who has expriance handfeeding show you how to handfeed and you may have to put this baby back on 1-2 feedings a day if it is not old enough to be weand. Formula needs to be between 105-108 temperature wise no cool and no hotter so you will need a either a digital meat thermomitor. Any hotter than 108 and you can burn their crop andy cooler than 105 and they either won't eat it or if they do if it is to cool they can't digest it and it can cause bacterial infection in the crop.
No peanut butter..Peanut butter is high in fat and oil that tiels don't need they can't process it. Some species of birds do require more fat and oil in their diet but tiels don't.
AS for your 1 year old she is probaly not comfortable that you put this crying new baby in with her/him and may not appreciat the new company I suggest seperating them asap.

:thanx: Thanks so much Sadenna! I spoke with her on the phone last night and went over some of the same things, some I missed --
Scotty - take Sadenna's advice on temp, not the 100-105 I told you. (temp for parrotlets)
You can get a meat thermometer at Meijers for $8 (saw them last night) they were $12 at Wal-Mart.
The baby is 9 or 10 wks old... she's had him 2 or 3 wks and got him at 7 wks.
She didn't have handfeeding formula so I suggested she try first with soaked Zupreem maintenance, which she had. She also has Fruit Blend.
Sadenna - Is soaked pellet food adequate, or do you recommend she buy a can of handfeeding forumla? Scotty - if you get the formula, it's a powder that you mix with hot water to the consistency of pudding. Most Pet Supplies places sell it, such as PetSmart, etc. Your bird store should carry it, as well.
I'd cage them side by side, with the baby in a smaller cage, for now.
Also, please describe the droppings again -- I don't want to misquote what you were describing last night.
THANKS!
