hi, my name is Kelly and I live in Lincolnshire in England. :wavey: I have 2 kids, 2 dogs and 2 African Grey's. I have had Pablo for 2 years and Pippa for 1 day!!!!:emot-danc Both my birds were bred locally. Pablo isn't keen on my husband and the new baby isn't sure what to make of it all!

Pablo can talk like there's no tomorrow and although he's not keen on my hubby, he repeats every word he say's!!! We hope Pab's and Pippa will become friends.

Welcome Kelly!

I also have two kids (sons 24 & 21) and two African Greys! Holly, above, is 3 and plays with my husband, but won't let him touch her feathers - is very attached to me regarding physical handling, and Sammy is almost 4 mos and we got him from the same breeder as Holly when he was 6 weeks old (I used to handfeed Bourke's, Parrotlets, etc) I think Sammy is leaning toward my husband. Their photos are in the Glorious Greys forum.

I look forward to seeing photos of Pablo and Pippa! How old is Pippa?

So glad you found us! :woot:

Although I am saying Pippa my husband isn't keen, do you have any good suggestion's for name? New one is about 12 weeks old. So far we have thought of Pingu, Pepper, Paulo, chuckles, piper- What do you think?

Hi Kelly:wavey:

Welcome to the board!!

Are you by any chance the Mum and wife of the little girl and Dad who got the grey from the petshop in Sutton on Sea yesterday????

If so it was me who handed your hubby the card.

If not you won't have a clue what i'm talking about:rofl:

I love the name Pippa!
But... I can always think of girl names more easily for birds than boy names.
Pepper is a pretty name, but a lot of greys have been named Pepper.

How about another artist name, like Monet? Pablo and Monet. Something along those lines. Or Monique...

12 weeks! Is she weaned? Holly was weaned at 14 weeks, and Sammy at 15 weeks, but he still gets a feeding each day, sometimes he skips a day.
I can't wait to see her picture! Was she DNA sexed female?

kelly

No not weaned. My hubby has taken on the role of feeding as I did it with Pablo. Also not dna tested, but we have had good look at it and has a different temperament to Pablo and seems to prefer hubby over me, comes out of cage for him and makes little noises to him as Pablo did to me when he was a baby. Doesn't come to me unless I make her. From passed experience I say girl!!!

Still trying to decide what to call new baby. I love Pippa and it seems to go well with her. She has the biggest eyes I have seen on a Grey, they melt my  !!! My family and I are commited to making our Grey's lives as happy and comfortable as possible-probably why Pablo is such a naughty boy, he is very spoilt and knows that I love him!! When we find our camera I will post some pics of my baby's. Doe's anyone have any tip's to make introducing the baby to Pablo and making it a successful introduction, as I have said Pablo is my boy and I don't want to upset him.:thanx:

He is absolutely gorgeous, a real cutie, I could have brought him/her home myself:heart:

Hi all, thankyou for the lovely comments. We- well mostly I, have decided to call her Pippa. it seem's to suit her. She is doing really well, not really interested in hand rearing, she is more interested in going over to Pablo's cage and seeing him, which he does'nt like much. He now sits in his cage before I go to bed and when I get up saying "Step up, come on"!!!!!! He still is'nt keen on her but will fly away if she comes close when there out togeather! My hubby is now teaching him to say "Let me out mum"!:wavey:

Hi Kelly,

I would suggest that you let them get to know each other on neutral ground... like a playgym, the floor, another room, not on each other's cage, which is their personal territory.

Can't wait to see more pics - you can post them in the Glorious Greys forum!

kelly

They are both in my dining room with there play stand Pablo is a little nervous though- he keeps coming to me. He has just got her on her wing- not hard though. Do you think it would be a better idea to put them both on the floor as Pablo is very nervous when they are close to each other. The problem with him is he is'nt all that friendly at the best of times with other people and does'nt like to be picked up- he is very head strong and likes to do his own thing when out of the cage. He won't come to me unless he want's some love .

I wouldn't push him to accept her. Let this take all the time it needs. The fewer "negatives" the more likely for a positive outcome... in other words, don't let them within nipping distance until they show some sort of interest. They may take days, months, or never happen. Eventually, greys they usually at least start talking to each other.

Both should be flighted enough to safely get away from each other when you put them near each other.
:)

Shirley gave good advice. There are things we can do to help them learn that being together is a good thing. You can feed them a favorite treat while far enough away so no harm comes. That was a big one here. I would eat, give some to one then the other. Worked good here plus I was part of the sharing which is good too. That's one, if you would like you could ask in the Grey forum and get a lot of good suggestions.

Thankyou for the advice, much appreciated. Pablo has been ok today with me, but is trying to put me in my place!! He has taken one of my favourite objects and chucked it on the floor!!!

Shirley
08-31-2006, 04:50 PM
That's parrot play, and getting your attention... he isn't trying to hurt your favorite object... imo.

kelly
08-31-2006, 05:17 PM
I know that he is only trying to get my attention but what a little devil!!! He knows that he is my little boy and he also knows that I love him very much- I think that this is half the problem with him- he is very spoilt. Anyway I thought that all you lovely folk in parrot land would like to know a little more about me and mine. I have 2 girls and they are 10 on Monday(9th) and the other is 7. I have a cavalier king charles spaniel who is 3 and is looney!!! Also a Jack Russell who is 1 and very shy- you can imagine what my house is like!!!!!

Hello all, it has been a while but I thought you would like to know that Pippa is doing really well and is off hand food. She just decided she didn't want any more. Pablo still isn't keen but has got alot more friendly with me, which is a plus!!Think he has learnt the nicer you are the nicer we are!! He now comes ove rfor a real cuddle and really like's to be made a fuss of!! Pippa is so nice. Comes over for lots of cuddles and love!!!

Shirley
09-19-2006, 09:28 PM
What a nice update! Thanks so much! Isn't it sweet when they come to us for their cuddles! :) How about some new pictures? How old now is Pippa? Sammy weaned himself earlier than I thought he would... just before he turned 4 mos.

Great to see you!! :wavey:

Hello! Pippa is now about 4 months old and has also weaned herself. She makes out like she wants it but then just covers me and anyone else she has a good shot at!! Will post more picks when am able. Pablo has been watching her and seeing how much attention she gets for being nice and he seems to realize that the nicer you are the more you get in return, he has let me hold him quite a few times now and I haven't been able to do that in a long time. He has also taken to strutting across the living room floor!!!

Shirley
09-25-2006, 11:15 AM
That's terrific, Kelly! And that's what Sammy did with his food when he was done being handfed... asked for it, then back off or slung the spoon.

Post your pics over in the Glorious Greys forum -- we'd love to see you over there often!

Hello all. sorry it's been so long but couldn't find you. Hope you all had a good x-mas, we had a busy one!! Pablo and Pippa are now sharing a cage and getting on alot better. Pippa is now finding her voice but do's screech alot. Pablo is getting alot nicer with me, I think he sees how much attention Pip gets and wants some!!! Will post some pics when they are still for long enough.

Shirley

Wow! How'd you get them to share a cage? I don't believe it would work at all for Holly and Sammy to share a cage. Holly is 3-1/2 and Sammy is almost 9 mos old.
