Have bird will travel ~

Here is Elvie's ~ "Travel / Play carrier " We use it every time we go somewhere, to the yard, a picnic at the park, a car show, parade, school classroom, children's church events, He's even been to the county fair with it.

I changed the pic. This one shows it a little better.

(A) baby good used or new baby carrier, I found this one at a yard sale. (B) wash and clean complete carrier + seat lining (C) Remove tray from carrier. (D) purchase 1/4 yard heavy clear plastic off the bolt from the yardage store to line the seat and back with. (E)
Go to hardware store and purchase some PVC pipe and stainless steel bolts, brackets how ever you see fit to use. (Note) I completed my project with the seat cover and tray off.

(F) cut to fit entire seat and back with plastic liner. tack with thread and needle all four corners then tack the center in between the corners of the seat.

Next step: (supplies I used) keep in mind, yours may vary depending on brand and style of carrier.

(1) 2 - PVC 8" to 12" long X 1 1/2" to 2" in diameter - sizes optional - connect on top end of T 2 PVC 6" X what ever dimension used above. I believe I used 1 3/4" for Elvie's

(2) 1 - pipe 20" same diameter as the rest, for the perch - length size depends width of carrier used

(3) 2 - PCP T connecting pieces to fit above pieces

(4) 2 - PVC end caps to fit top of long PVC pipes - optional 4 end caps if you want to cap the bottom pipes.

(5) 4 - 3 3/4" stainless threaded U bolts and 4 locking washers 4 locking nuts
to secure the side poles to the side of the frame. Drill holes to fit and secure.

(6) Picture the T connector as being laid out sideways with the 2 top and 2 bottom pieces being the up and down poles and the open end leaving the open end for the perch to be connected to, do the same at the other end.

Now connect your up and down pieces with U bots to the frame on each side of the carrier, the perch should be in place now.

(7) 2 - strong corner brackets to screw one end into the T bracket the other into the side of the tray, make sure when mounting the bracket is about 2" away from the perch to allow plenty of good foot room around the perch to avoid any foot injury.

(8) drill holes in center of top end caps, place eye bolts through them securing with flat washer on top side locking washer inside side, secure tightly with nut. now place on top of PVC poles. No you are ready to mount toys to the two eye bolts on the top caps. - optional you can also drill holes on the side to mount one or two additional eye bolts, with locking washers and locking nuts. Remember to face eye bolts with the eye inward to attach additional toys to. Attach what ever toys you would like. Now, you are finished.

If you choose to use - optional bottom caps, you put those on now. I did not feel I need bottom ones.

(9) vet wrap the perch

(10) Once everything is securely mounted and in place you are ready to mount a food dish or a food and water dish

Supplies for mounting dish. 4 - 2" rubber washers 2 - 2" steel washers using one steel washer on top and bottom. These large washers secure tray with added strength. placing the rubber washers as spacers on the underside and the other steel washer under neath.

Mounting dish.
drill proper hole size to allow 1" bolt shaft through tray, place steel washer on shaft, place shaft through tray. Add rubber spacing washers then steel washer put on locking washer and locking nut. Now put seat cover back on and you should be finished. Repeat dish mounting if using two dishes. I do not remove dish for cleaning. I clean and sanitize it in place.

Here is a pic from a different angle.

:thanx: Leah and Shirley.

Leah, he's pretty good about staying there as long as we are not at home, unless he wants me to hold him. Possibly, that's because he knows it is his away from home perch. I keep switching the hanging toys so he has new ones to play with.
