Hey Barb-

What a cutie  Thanks for the update! I love that bit of gold starting to show on his/her face! I can't remember-did you have an avian vet check-up yet? Just returned from AAV last week. I always recommend exams for babies anyway, but learning about things at conferences makes me even more vigilant. Can't help it, it's the doc in me :D

So how is Liberty-what is he doing now, tell us all about the cute baby stuff he does, more pix, please

Awww  Thanks Barb. S/He's so cute. Yep I see those tail feathers. Looks like those beard feathers are showing up too. So you know I have to ask... how do you like feeding that little angel?:) I bet the feeding response is getting a little stronger. Does s/he get all excited when you are mixing up the formula? Boy I'm asking a lot of questions, sorry, but I have this thing for Macaws. How are the other birdies reacting to the baby? Okay I'll stop with the question.
Give him/her a kiss and hug from me.:tighthug:

Wowee! I see huge changes from the last time! Feather tracks, color coming in, beak color changing, what a cutie-pie!!

And I 2nd Dr. Cook's recommendation -- get the crop examined, maybe a fecal... she did Sammy justice! Checked out every nook and cranny, including the output and watched him eat, the whole bit.

Keep those pics coming!

Liberty is adorable!  I can see his changes too. I wish I could reach out to cuddle him. :emot-danc

Dr.C, it's great to have a vet on the board. I can understand where you need to see these little babies. It makes perfect sense, just like our human doctors need to see out little human ones.

WOW how did I miss this? I knew you were thinking about getting a baby macaw but I didn't know you had him already. I am sorry I have not been on her much so I must have missed a lot. Do you have to feed him all night long or does he sleep a lot? I won't ask any more questions I know you have a lot to answer already. I have not been around baby macaws much but I have a friend that she gets paid to hand feed all the macaws from a breeder. She also breeds her own. They are just do cute when thay are little like that. Taco is all grown up and I always wonder what she was like when she was a baby. Oh do you know if it is a boy or girl yet? Give him a kiss from me.

 sooo cute I am a sucker for baby macaws aaah heck macaws in general..lol

Bet handfeeding him is quite the adventure..wait till he gets bit older and the whole body gets going when your trying to handfeed and I am talking the vigorous head bobs, the wings flapping the feet tapping they don't hold still very well and can be challenging. Hopefully you won't have any problems with this one our Military Macaw at 3 months decides she was done with formula and did not want the syringe I literally had to sit on the floor with the syringe held at arms length and dribble it in a little at a time, she would come close enough where I could touch her and then run off taunting me almost.
It was a very hard week I was so concerned about her but luckily I work for a gal who raises birds and gypys was still at her house at the time I am so lucky she was there to help me out with her when gypsy was being difficult to handfeed I don't know what I would of done if I didn't have her for support and help when I needed her and to get food in gypsy weather she wanted it or not lucky gypsy only did this for a week then went back to really wanting handfeedings.
And in the 3 years I have been helping this gal out I have seen many baby macaws go through the difficult stage..not yet ready to wean but still need handfeeding twice to three times a day and are a pain in the you know what to handfeed they fight you like crazy and will bump the syringe away and can be just plain stubborn, but the next minute they are doing baby I am hungry feeding honks and flipping their wings so you offer gain and nope still won't take it...it can be very frustrating at times and it was those times I was so lucky to have the gal I work for help me through until gypsy was able to come home...she eventually came home on 2 feedings a day but I was taking her back and forth to work with me and by then she was back to eating normal again and taking handfeedings like they were going out of style no problems and she weaned just fine and will still take a bit of formula now and then...all my birds will, I find it a good way if I have to be able to get meds down them...
