I would like to introduce...........my sweet baby http://www.thebirdforum.com/forums/images/smilies/em/wub.gif

Weighing in at 320g, and sprouting blue tail feathers! http://www.thebirdforum.com/forums/images/smilies/em/nuts.gif

Liberty eats very good and is starting to be very alert to his surroundings. Love his little squawks when hungry and peaceful peeps at night are most adorable and need to get a clip on video soon.

Jim, anyone that has come over to visit and has been here to watch me feed, is pretty funny to watch their reactions to see a clownish baby so eager to eat, roflol http://www.thebirdforum.com/forums/images/smilies/em/laugh.gif

He's doing wonderful and I couldn't ask for a better blessing than him (or her ;o)

Barb, he is absolutely adorable!! I didn't realize Macaws get their feathers so much later than Greys! He is SO sweet!!

Enjoy every moment -- the time flies by... take pics every day! I'm glad I did! And I'm glad I dated them all -- it blows my mind how quickly Sammy is growing up!

Post more pics when you have time as he develops!

And congratulations on your beautiful baby!

Aww what a cute I love them at that age they are just soooo adorable I have to admit handfeeding baby macaws is one of my fave things I got to help raise our military from a week of age and have also helped with feeding blue and golds, greenwings, and my fave Hyacinths and you think blue and golds have quite the feeding response..try handfeeding a Hy sometime I think more formula get everywhere else but in the bird..lol

Shirley yes macaws tend to develope and mature much slower than birds like amazons, greys, eclectus and birds of similiar size not to mention wean much later which for some macaws can be up to a year like for Hyacinths..but even more interesting is caiques develope and mature just like a large macaw even though they are a smaller bird..

Sadenna -- thanks for sharing your knowledge. I never knew that, but I've heard macaws are more "challenging" to handfeed. True in your experience? And is the challenge b/c they headbob so aggressively? I recently heard that..?? Why would that make them more of a challenge to handfeed from a young age?

OMG Barb he is such a cutie, just look at that face.

That second pic makes me laugh, it looks like he's saying yep look at me mama I really can fly lol. What a darling.

Oh yes take pics every day, he's soon gonna be a big boy/girl.

We want to know everything he's getting up to and see loads of pics. What do Holly and Sinbad make of their new brother/sister.

Oh my Gosh Barb, S/he is tooo cute! I can see the faces of people watching you feed. It is shocking the first few times you see it.

Keep the pictures coming. You'll be used to it but think back to now and tell us more about the eating when s/he gets 'bout 3-4 months and then starts chasing you around and yelling for the food. You and Shirley can have fun comparing notes on that one.:)

Sammy is quieter than any baby bird I've ever seen when asking for and receiving handfeedings. He sort of chirps or makes a little puppy sound. He's nothing like the macaws and cockatoos I've watched feed. He's quieter than Tucker 'tiel was!

shirley,

Yes becasue they have such a strong feeding response I mean their head goes their wings flap hard to hold them still in one place even youngsters as young as liberty can be a challange sometimes they start bobbing even before the syringe gets in their beak and they honk and they flap..lol I would not go as far to say it is a aggressive feeding responce but a very strong one at that..if your not careful they can knock a 60cc syringe out of your hand like it was nothing they can be a bit of a challenge the mini macaws are ont bad for handfeeding but the larger macaws, scarlets, greenwings, blue and golds, Hyacinths can make it interesting..lol and they have such a big bottom beak it can hold formula so when your done feeding they just take their tonge and push out what was in there..lol.

You got it. lol

Don't know if this happens over in the US, but when your youngest child starts school everyone asks if you are getting broody for another baby  Barb, do I remember right that Alison starts school this year? Wonder what people would make of your latest addition, brings a whole new meaning to wanting another baby lol. In that case I want loads of new babies. lol

ok Jim, I'll get some pics up soon  I can say that he reached the 400g mark this a.m!!

He now weighs more than Akeela  (Akeela weighs 364g/ Sinbad weighs 440g)

I will get some good close-up pics of his face. The yellow feathers are coming in around his ears, and his ears are looking more like ears now with the skin coming in to make his holes. He has real thick patches of new feathers coming in on his shoulders, and his tail feathers are getting a bit longer.

I haven't posted pics because he kinda looked the same unless you were able to spot the differences. I know in the next few weeks he should be sprouting lots of feathers and looking more like a bird rather than a neonate :agree:

Peta, Akeela is doing fine with his presence. She looks and watches him. She now says "Hi baby bird!!" Very cute  Sinbad is still unsure of this honking creature, lol.
