Hello there !!!! My name is Cindy and I am just saying hello!!!!

Alittle about myself:
I am a 40 something yr old lady that is "OWNED" by an 8 yr old African Grey Parrot named Riley Joe. He is the love of my life. I have had him now for close to 4 yrs and he is a constant source of laughter and love.:rotflmao: I never realized how this 1 pound bundle of feathers could impact my life SOOOOO MUCH. He is an AVID chatterbox and an AMAZING sound effects guy. His intelligence scares me at times. He KNOWS exactly what he is saying and will ask for things that he wants. He could care less about other people that live here..... He only has eyes for me... I am his chosen one. My other Huge interest includes Freshwater and Saltwater Aquariums. I maintain a 90 gallon reef tank, 55 gallon African Cichlid Tank, and a 25 gallon planted freshwater tank. I think I have the best of both worlds right here. :emot-danc

enough about me.... Just wanted to say HELLO!!!!!!!:p

Cindy

Here are a few pics of Riley:

Welcome Cindy! I love the name Riley Joe!!

Above is my love, Holly, who just turned three! Riley Joe is gorgeous! Now, was he bonded to someone before you got him? I've often wondered, would Holly ever allow someone to touch her besides me if anything ever happened to me... she LOVES loads of people, steps up for them, talks to them, but only allows me to touch her/pet her/preen her.

I'm so happy you found us!

Also... you have saltwater tanks... reef tanks! So do we! Are you a member of TRT www.thereeftank.com ? They are our sister forum....

Welcome to the bird forum, Cindy. Thanks for introducing us to Riley. He looks sweet.

We have a sun conure named Bailey and a 300 gallon saltwater aquarium. Oh, and I can't forget about our American Eskimo, Jack. He's the spoiled one of the family.

Thank you SOOOOO much for the Wonderful Welcome!!!!!!!! I forgot to add that I Also have a Sun Conure, 4 yrs old whose name is Danny. He could peel the shingles off a roof with his screaming. Riley and Danny do not get along that well...He gets on Riley's nerves all the time. Riley is constantly saying ..."Danny, Shutup!" or "Danny, I'm gonna kick yer butt"... It is simply hilarious to listen too.
Here he is having a "Bad Hair Day"

Hi Cindy,

I just wanted to welcome you also. Riley and Danny are beautiful birds. I love to see a bird trust their owner enough to just lay on their backs in your hands like that. Hope to get to know you and the birds better. Thanks for posting the pictures. We always love to see pictures. :camera:

That little guy that is standing beside Danny is his brother Jelly Bean. He was adopted by a fantastic gal who moved with him to Florida. I did run a parrot rescue up until a year ago. I found great homes for all the fids. There was 9 of them. Danny and Riley kind of found their way into my heart and I couldnt give them up. Riley especially. He was abused when I received him. The previous owner's husband beat on his cage, yelled at him and threw him around. So to save his life, the owner asked me if I would take him. I LEAPED at the chance. She truely loved Riley but didnt want him subjected to the abuse her husband did to him. If that would have been my husband I would have kicked him to the curb and kept the parrot....

And now you know the rest of the story.
I now am honored to "be owned by a parrot." He is my "lil grey buddy"

Danny is adorable all wet and bathed like that! I am partial to the name too, that's my husband's name.:D

He isn't a bird person but he likes the look of the sun conure, everytime he sees one he says "Now there is a good looking bird!" I told him they could be "loud for their size" maybe I underestimated them?:funny:

That is great that Riley found a new loving home before he had to goo through any more of that. That really makes the "bird in the hand is worth more" photo even more special:wub:

I have to agree with you and Peta, he'd be kicked to the curb, abuse of the pets, kids, or myself would not be tolerated and if he treated the pet like that, I can't imagine he'd have respected her much better....

Of course part of being in a marriage though is being considerate of and respecting your spouse's wishes, and part of being a responsible pet owner is making sure that all members of the household want, and will at least tolerate the pet and it's idiosyncracies.

No Riley is not DNA sexed yet. The reason I call Riley a boy is because he has the personality of my 19 yr old son, Adam....;) A young adult forever stuck in a preteen body...ie: burping, farting and at times just being obnoxious. Adam is the one who taught him those UNGODLY Manners.

Well, I have to agree with that... he looks more like a she than a he.
Have you seen many DNA-sexed males? Pretty noticeable difference in their heads/necks from females... Can't say for sure, but if I had to bet, I'd bet a "lady"...:heart:
