I forgot to tell you, we went to the local bird fair last Sunday, I got to oogle some Bourkes! I've spoken to this breeder before, hers are not handtamed at all, she's never heard of anyone handling theirs much. I don't think anyone breeds like you do :(

You should give her my email address... :(

What a shame. They are the neatest birds!! I sold one yesterday... they wrote me last night... he's riding around on their shoulder all evening, he was hatched last August. Someday, some how, you gotta get one of mine!

(anyone driving to NH from IN??) :wavey:

Someday, I will. After knowing you for however long we have, and hearing about your Bourkes, I won't settle for one that is not handtamed.

Marie, Hope you get a Bourke! I have gotten Bourkes that were not handfed, or tame when they came, but their nature is so docile, and they love people so much, it is easy to tame them...They are very trusting little guys! I let my Bourkes and Grasskeets out on the screened porch..and if I sit out there to read or just draw or something, they sit on me anywhere they can find a perch! And, a piece of fruit will bring any of them to come join you for a bite! Not too many Bourke breeders handle the babies much as the parents are excellent caregivers, but they seldom want to bite and are a cinch to tame. Easier than a regular parakeet and they are a much quieter bird with a delightful chirppy song... I am enamored with all the Grasskeets, and will be getting another pair of scarlet chested, or spendids, the end of May...

Ginni,
Did you see the article on Bourkes, etc in the new issue of BirdTalk? I believe it's a Scarlet Chested that is one of the centerfolds, I think. There are some gorgeous birds that they talk about. Red Rumped Parakeets, too and I saw a pair of those at the bird show as well. Scarlet Chesteds are beautiful birds. Are yours handelable?

I just read that article today. They are beautiful little birds. Shirley's are so hand tamed. I wish she'd write the next article on Bourke's. hint, hint.

Shirley, I hope you can someday, I know you have a lot to offer to in an article about Bourke's from hatching to adulthood. You sure have the pics to accompany a good article.
