I have to ask, did you have any trouble introducing the new toy to your bird? Sammie will stare at new things in her cage for hours or even days!

I bought her the 14" ball :D and its a little bog but it gives her loads of room to play, it only took her 2 dys to go near the Jolly Ball,,she was on her Boing the same night, but she was VERY weary of it and once she touched the Jolly Ball and it moved, she stodd back, screamed at it , then wouldnt go near it,,LOL but she overcame that fear,,,,now she hits it with her beak then puts her head down for her ball to pet her,,LOL,,,she always nips me then pute her head down for a scritch,,she seems to think her toys will pet her also,,Crazy bird,,heres some pics of her Jolly Ball and her Boinghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v503/Dakin_Corbin/ef2a924b.jpg

Brandy, I just looked and yup that's what it says  Why would they not accept digital photos?? That is what most people have converted over to, who goes to develop film anymore when you have instant access
I wonder why they wouldn't accept professionally printed photo's, not just off our computer? IMO some digital pics I've seen have been ultra clear compared to negative photos.
Maybe we all should write them and ask why, and get them to change this.
I thought they use pics of different species of birds you can submit in email, why wouldn't they do that in the subject mentioned??
odd odd, and a shame, you have some really great pics there!!!!

the 3rd and the last one in her Jolly Ball are really clear, good candidates since the sharpness turned oout really well. Other than the 3rd one having a bit of overexposure of the lore (which I get alot of while taking pics of the Greys).
I like the peeking in one, but doesn't show what she's on or give much activity in the pic for something they would put in BT.
I still say someone write to them and see if they can change this..:agree:

They are really great pics, and Milabenna is great and just sooooooooo pretty.
I love her in the jolly ball, have been thinking of getting one for Bucc, after seeing all the fun Milly is having I might just have to.
The pics are really great Thanks for sharing them with us all.
Barb and Brandy
Just my thoughts here about Bird Talk and photos. Digital photos are easy to manipulate and or enhance. They are responsible for what they publish so I can see their point.

Jim...........so? lol WHO has a regular camera anymore??? I hated getting my film developed and would NEVER go that route again.
Enhance, like take shadows out, or brighten? I see nothing wrong there. But if it was a bit suspecting, couldn't they then decide from there? These are peoples personal pics, why would they care?
that just annoys me, what are they going to do when old cameras are faded out and put into the time capsule?? lol
Just like VHS or Cassette tapes.... :p
Barb, I know what you're saying and truthfully as I said it was my thoughts. Why I thought it was not so much the touch-up, like shadows. More along the lines of flat out misleading by photoshoping the picture. I sure would be upset if I saw one of my birds in Bird Talk flying, which are my favs, photoshoped to look like they were in someone else's house. First thing I would do is contact Bird Talk and probably not be too nice.
Milabeana is beautiful!  And your pics are outstanding! Where did you find that huge ball?
I love them all...

Would they be able to tell if the photo was digital or not???
Jean, i got the whole thing already made up from a lady who sells toys, theres alot of people who make them tho, ,,,The Jolly Ball is actually if I remember right, just a dogs toy, ,,,then you drill the small holes yourself to hang the toys off of it

I just looked in the back of my Bird Talk magazine and it said that they dont accept printed digital photos :( well thats all I have :(
Printed digital photos? You either send them prints from film or a digital image file or a print from a digital file. The print from a digital file is the worst format they'll want, thus they don't want it.
Now, the pics that won awards that I sent in (they are on my website below) were printed digital photos, but I print them on professional paper with professional inks directly from Photoshop Professional 7.0. A lot of printed digital photos lose a LOT from what they could have looked like... and they (the mag editors) can make a MUCH nicer image from your digital file to their magazine than if they have to scan your print, thus making it digital (again), and then put it in the magazine.
As for manipulating them, they aren't going to do that. They'll enhance the light and color, crop, resize, but believe me, they aren't even going to take the time to eliminate shadows for you or fix up backgrounds. Look at the pics in the back of the magazine sent in by viewers and you'll see what I mean. They may not even crop pics sent it to bring out the subject better.
As for manipulating images, anyone can scan a film photo print or negative and then it's digital, thus it can be manipulated.
When clients tell me their photos are in digital format, which now they often are, I require that they send them to me in the largest, original format, no editing or correction at all, and don't reduce the filesize or physical size. I do all that. Each time a .jpg is edited and then saved, a little is "lost". You have no loss with .tif files, so I convert everything "good" to tif, then from there make my .jpg's to post here..., keeping my original tif for later "just in case".
So, I don't want a client to try to fix a photo with some software they have, and then I have to try to fix it more in Photoshop. There are ways, for example, to lighten a photo or darken it *without* using the lighten or darken tool, and that looks so much better than "lightening or darkening" an image.

Would they be able to tell if the photo was digital or not???
....
If you print them from a home printer, yes. The quality will be substandard. If printed by a custom lab or professional printer, no, unless the watermark on the back of the photo paper gives it away. They don't care if it's digital, they care that it's the best quality possible for them to work with.
Often home printers aren't color-correct for the colors in the digital file, or they are grainy, or the paper is less than the best, and so on. They have to scan this to get it to their magazine. Scan a photo printed from a home printer on less than the best photo paper sometime -- you'll see what I mean.

Thank you Shirley for clarifying all the digi stuff. Makes sense and also what I thought the reasons were about printing them off yourself. That's when I mentioned getting them professionally printed.
thanks for you knowledge, o photo queen :p

Here are their guidelines for photo submission... but these are for submitting to be used in the main body of the magazine or on the cover.
http://www.birdtalkmagazine.com/bt/detail.aspx?aid=12851&cid=3904&category=
I was thinking of the back page where people send in pics of their birds playing, doing fun things, interacting with people or other birds. They put several there each month.
Now this is weird! the back page states this about digital photos:
"We are unable to use digital photos, printed or otherwise."
Wow! They don't trust anyone, I guess... so that means, they also won't use a scanned photo that is then printed... b/c once a film print is scanned, it becomes digital. I guess they figure the photos will be manipulated to "look cuter" or whatever. I haven't used my film camera in a LONG time..... nor would I go to the trouble. How are you going to get that sudden impulsive shot if you have to go set up your film camera each time?? A digital image printed at a lab will say on the back exactly what the film photos say. I would challenge them any day to tell me which Seniors wallets I have were originally digital, and which were not.
When a photographer sends film in to be developed by a professional lab, the lab either does the retouching the old-fashioned way, retouching negatives, OR more commonly now, scans the negs, puts them on CD, runs them through photoshop, then prints the order, and sells the CD to the photographer if he wants it. He can end up with a digital set and a negative set of the event he photographed with his film camera.
If your store prints them on same paper, same backside of the paper, as your film prints are printed on, then go for it, imo. They are too good not to share!

okay I went and compared the 2 pctures, Digital and then a regular picture that i had printed from a film,,,they were both done through Sobeys (Craigs work)
On the back of my digital picture it says Konica Minolta DIGITAL Long Life 100
I then looked at the back of the film picture and it says the EXACT same thing, the only difference is the film picture isnt shiny like the digital one, but I think thats something I chose, matte or glossy
Ill get them printed and send them in,,,the absolute worse thing that can happen is they wont print it,,

Go for it!
And, you can have them printed w/o the text on the back if you ask them in advance. Strange they wrote that on the back of the film pic one.

hey now theres an idea, Ill try and see if i can find the Jolly Ball site, Ive found loads of distrubators but not the actual Jolly Ball company
let me know what Bird Talk says
Thats what i kind of thought about the pictures also, but Im thinking it maybe because Sobeys doesnt actually develope them themselves, they have to mail them away, when I send in the digi prints through the computer, I send them right to the company that Sobeys deals with,,so I basically cut the middle man out?? I have no clue,,,
