He everyone i'm a Mother again:thumbup: My Son whated a bird for Easter, so my Husband seen how much we love Sweet Pea, he went out yesterday, and came home with a Love Bird, than he gave Richard and I money tobuy him a cage and toy's. Richard and I had a ball fixing his cage up. The Bird is yellow with some orange, or peach, coming in threw his tail, and face, he is eleven week's old. Richard named him Sunny Buck. As we was fixing his cage up he didn't have his wing's cut, he flew and on his belly a blood feather came out, i thought he was going to die, i called the Vet's right away, we was all praying he would not die. The Vet told me to put neasprone ( i know i spelled that wrong ) on it and some more power on it, i did and it stopped, Thank GOD, I'm still worried about him, he is acting ok, but birds are so tiny and i love them so much. So Pray Sunny Buck will be with us for a very-very long time. :thanx:

p.s. If you know a good web site, or any thing about love birds please tell me all, i have my hands full with, Sunny Buck, and Sweet Pea, I told my Husband two is enough...........................

Congratulations on your new addition :emot-danc

Is the vet you called an Avian vet?? Most vets would not recommend Neosporin on an injury for a bird. Might be something we can ask from Dr. C to confirm that. And what powder are you talking about??

Please if you would, post a question to Dr. C soon about Neosporin before you continue using it.

Congratulations

On your new family member. There was a post a little while ago about a blood feather, I think it was Shirley who posted it. I'll see if I can find it. I would definately ask Dr. C. Good luck, and look forward to seeing pics of your new little one.

Tracie, I just saw this... your title didn't trigger an urgent reading of the post, so I had planned to read all the unread posts later, so when you have a problem, Please mention something specific to the problem in the title of your post.:thanx:

Ask Dr. C about neosporin.
I've always heard NOT to use neosporin on birds.

To stop the bleeding of a blood feather, use flour to clot the blood and hold it 'til it stops. You said a blood feather on his chest? Are you sure it wasn't a wing feather, such as a primary flight feather?

Also, understand that your parrotlet and your love bird may become very aggressive toward each other as they grow up... parrotlets have been known to kill other parrotlets of the same sex, even of the opposite sex if not bonded, and other species. They are very territorial, so please do not cage them together.

Unclipped wings -- many pros and cons. Flight is your bird's only means of escape from your other pets. But... he could slam into a wall and suffer serious injury or death while learning to fly properly - turns, landings, etc.

Here's a site you'll find helpful:

Shirley,
He is doing well, yesterday he wouln't move, this morning after i put a warm light on top his cage, 40 watt, he started eating, drinking, playing, chirpping, he is now cleaning his self, my Husband said when he bought him he was in a aquerium, with more Love Bird's, and other Parrot's, he couldn't even perch.I'll tell more in the right place hopefully.........................

Is he weaned??? How old is he? I won't let baby Bourke's leave the house 'til they been living away from their parents and eating on their own for two weeks... that's usually about 10-11 weeks of age.

Don't let the temp go above 85. Warmth is very good, though, for a sick bird. 87 degrees. But... you don't want to overheat a well bird. The links I posted will explain about heat therapy.

Also.... it sounds like a pet store that lets babies leave rather young... PLEASE be aware of quarantining so you don't bring something home that is contagious and then infects your little parrotlet... I recommend you have a fecal done, or perhaps you should ask Dr. C what you should do when you have one baby bird, then introduce another, explaining where they came from (pet shop? how many birds were they around? those sorts of things)

I'm so happy he is feeling better! And keep the questions coming.

Hi Tracy, Congratulations! with the new bird. Shirley gave excellent advice, she knows her babies. Shirley's absolutely right about quarantine. It's is so important!

I have been told the same about Neosporin by my vet. Please take her suggestion to Ask Dr. C about Neosporin.
I've always heard NOT to use Neosporin on birds.

I am glad he's feeling better.
