Hello Dr.C,

I am hoping you can help me?

I have to day (17th March) been told by the hospital that my parrots, Galah Cockatoo, B&G Macaw, Hahns Macaw, and CAG are the cause of my eczema getting worse.

Do you know if there is actually any medical evidence that this is possible?

Dear Angie,

I have not heard of eczema as a result of living with birds, but I can see how easily the birds might aggravate your condition. Their claws on your skin can easily abrade the skin and perhaps precipitate an episode of itching and eczema. This is a good question that I will try to research a bit. Birds can cause other types of reactions, mainly respiratory. Good luck!:eek:
