As time permits...

I will make avatars for those of you who don't have the photo editing software to make your own.

I will need a CLEAR photo with uncluttered contrasting background of your subject, close-up, and email it to me at ssmorgan@insightbb.com with AVATAR in the subject line. That is very important.

Please sign your user name and your real name in the email. I will crop and resize and email it back to you, and you will upload it to the server or whatever to get it in place.

Here is how large it will be, so consider this when you choose a photo

50x50 pixels

:)
Also, if anyone has a suitable photo they'd like to donate to be made into a generic avatar image, please send it and I'll make it so we have a "library" of generic avatars to choose from.

i had to make mine tiny to fit the pixel requirements..... is there a length of membership or posting status that allows for larger avatars later? :)

Shirley

Yes, a number of posts. You can probably make yours larger now. I don't know what it is, maybe 30 posts...??

When you go to your usercp and go to the custom avatar place, it will tell you how large it can be. :highfive:

Isn't Shirley soooo nice... She just does and does and does for everyone. And I've seen her and she is pretty too. A little on the thin side...

An unusual combination. Nice and pretty to boot.

Hey Shirley, can ya give a heads up to me on how to do my own in Adobe photoshop 7.0??

And anyother pointers ya might want to throw in on how to spice my pics up w/adding more than one pic into a siggie??

Shirley

What do you want to know? I give photoshop help over the cell phone during free minutes time when I have time... that's the easiest way to learn... by doing it as you are talked through it.

See how large your avatar is allowed... it's based on # of posts... and then make it 72dpi, and then the max pixels allowed by width of height, and then save it at a quality level such that the file size stays BELOW the allowed size. (Such as quality level of 7 or 8 and it should stay below 24KB)

I was hoping you could help me with the sigs. How do people make sigs or collages with all their birds in it? What kind of software do you need to do something like that? Any advice or help? Is there enough room in your sig to do something like that? :help: ant if anyone can help please talk to me like I'm a 2 year old.:drool2: Thanks!

That's exactly what I say to Troy when I ask him to teach me something new on Photoshop!! (Got it from the movie "Philadelphia", did you also?)

Wow professional huh? That sounds complicated. Don't they have photoshop for dummies?:rotflmao: Now that's what I need. My hubby the "computer god" says I have to learn these things by myself and that's how he learned. Grrrrrrrr

Leah, be glad your hubby is a "computer god" I wish mine was... It's a bummer he doesn't know how to show me anything... If I can't figure it out I don't do it, and that seems to be the case with my new digital camera. :scratchch I still have Christmas pics of Elvie on my SD memory card...

:funny: I only learn what I'm going to use regularly... And yeah, I have to learn by doing, too, and by exploring. A book or class in a new computer software program doesn't do much, imo. Also, there are dozens of step-by-step tutorials online now... for free.. for most all the photo-editing and other such programs.

It''s their most inclusive and most expensive photo progam. You can put whole magazine layouts together with Phtoshop and Illustrator. The sky's the limit, and I don't know anyone who knows all of either program!

But --- there's Photoshop Elements! Way, way less expensive, and does a lot from what I hear... I used to use a basic photoshop program before Elements came out and before I had Photoshop Pro (5.0) For many, the pro program is overkill and not necessary. For others, it's essential... it's capabilities are amazing.

Jean, do you have an SD card reader to plug into your computer via USB port? If so, your pics will appear on an external hard drive (your SD card) in the "My Computer" window... and you copy or move them to your internal hard drive to a folder where you store your photos of Elvie. I never plug my camera directly to my computer... it's much easier to use a card reader (and saves batteries on your camera in most cases)

Also, my cameras didn't come with extensive manuals...only the basics. Those are either on the CD and I either print out what I want or have to read it "online", or they are on the Make/model Website and are downloadable as a PDF document. Then again... I have to print it out or I'm stuck reading it on my monitor.

HELP!!! I now have really nice pics of the Mardi Gras Dance, and want to print them out with a simple border, and "Me & My Guy" (first line) "Mardi Gras Dance-2/3/06" (underneath first line) printed on the border underneath the picture. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a border & text. Went to WalMart, and they have to be done individually. Load the pic from the CD, select border, add text, print. Then start all over again. I have over 100 pictures to do, and only finished 3 before the people in line after me started tapping their feet. Is there any simple software available out there, cheap? I can't burn all my vacation time printing these out, would rather do it at home. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !!! Anne

What's the Mardi Gras Dance?
I can make you an avatar, but I'm not sure what you want...

The Mardi Gras Dance was the Girl Scout fundraiser our troop had 2/3/06. I took photos of the girls with their fathers as a keepsake for them. I have downloaded the pics from the digital to my PC, but I couldn't put a border or text to each individual photo. I think I may have found something on ULEAD which I experimented with this afternoon and it seems to fit my simple needs. I don't want to make an avitar out of the photos, just print them out for the little girls & their families. Couldn't figure out an inexpensive way to do it without buying software that had a lot of stuff on it I don't really need, or will ever use. Anne

Shirley, Do you know how to use Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.0? That's what I have.... but Wooo Weeee, it's beyond my knowledge. Don't ask how I edit the video.... you'd probably wet your pants laughing. :funny:

I don't know what I am lookng for. I looked for a slot to put my SD card in and there isn't one.. :shrug:Jean your toooo cute.;) The card reader is something you have to buy, it's what you put the card in. The USB port is on the computer. A small plug-in place, real small, smaller than a phone plug and flat. You may not have one if the puter is old, but they make them to fit other ports too. Now I bet your all corn-fused. :)

I hit edit by error....sorry Jim, were just having two much fun tonigt. ~Jean

You bet I am corn fused......and feel STUPI*, maybe someday I'll get someone to show me...

Christmas I made Elvie his own little table top tree. I put some cards in and around it. In frot there is one of a santa penguin with a yellow beak. He honestly was the funniest bird when I put him on the table to look at his tree and cards. he singled that card out walked past it, turned around and walked past it again.. stopped to stare at it, went past it again never letting it out of the corner of his eye... I took the entire sequence of pictures as he paraded back and forth in front of that penguin. He is so funny to watch... I could not figure out how to upload them. Someday....maybe....

Jean, check this out.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/flash_memory.html

And your SD card stands for "secure digital" so click on that box when you come to it.

And here's some readers for sale... I have the first one b/c I have so many different kinds of cards - SD, xD, Smartmedia, etc. That reader is overkill for you b/c it takes all kinds of cards. But... if you ever have someone there with a different card, it will likely work.

http://www.dealtime.com/xGS-sd_card_reader

And at Staples, a multimedia card reader for only $20, and takes SD.
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=135273&cmArea=SEARCH

Not sure if that one comes with the USB cable... so either get one that fits a spare USB cable you have, or get one that comes with the cable... and make sure the part that goes into the computer is the same type USB input that your computer requires. There are a couple different USB ends even though they do the same thing.

Hi all!
Barb-Congrats on new position, you'll be a great asset I'm sure.
Shirley-The ULEAD was installed as part of our computer package. I've been playing with it since I last spoke with you, and it's pretty neat. Simple enough for me to understand. I can put borders (framing) around the print, insert text on the photo or border, and have a huge selection of borders & fonts. I haven't yet looked to see if it does DVD's.
Jean, Jeff, etc. - Is the card you're talking about like the one that comes out of your digital camera & gets loaded onto your computer to print photos? We have an HP photosmart 7350 printer (very basic), and it has 2 sizes of card readers right in the front cover. I use that to download my photos into the CPU.
At any rate, got to run, best to all, Anne

What about automatically crop the pixel in order to suit the avatar requirements instead of accessing users account (though consent may be given, that would somehow mean a deprivation of privacy).
