I was able to talk to the chairman of my dissertation committee and he agreed that I could take a smaller number of participants (esp. given the uncooperativeness of some parties involved). I also talked to the woman who is in charge of getting the appropriate paperwork in and she told me how to work it. You see this is my last year to get this doctorate completed. I also talked to the professor (who is the Statistics Queen) and she helped me over the phone with my stats. I am now ready to write my Results and Discussion sections. Then I have to get them mailed to the committee post haste. What a big relief!

BTW: Alexithymia did not appear to play a role in the propensity for abusiveness in male batterers. However, male batterers who were alexithymic were more likely to be depressed!

Way to go Bill!  I didn't know they put a cap on how long one could take to complete a doctorate...?? What a relief I know it is to finish a paper so big and demanding! And detailed and accurate! And then you have to defend it, right? in front of a committe?

Now, in short, what is Alexithymia?

Congratulations on your progress! :woot:

I was told they don't like you to take over 7 years and I think I am at 8 years! UGH!

Yes, I have to travel to Fresno, CA to defend my findings in front of my committee. I am not looking forward to this experience but I will have it over with in May.

Alexithymia is the the difficulty in identifying one’s feelings and expressing them in words.

I finished writing my last two chapters of my dissertation and now I just have to proof read it tomorrow morning and then I will mail it to them tomorrow. I am going to have spend big money to send it to three committee members and then include a paid Express envelope for them to return it to me post haste.

Bill, we are all so proud of you for your accomplishments. I am sorry you have to make a trip to CA. What a drag, Their reasoning sounds rediculous to me.

Good Luck, Hugs.

Bill, Is your school or your specific college based in Cal? Jean, if it is, this is why he has to travel to them to present and defend his documentation, as this is the normal practice. Bill, good luck with this final phase! I hope you have planned a nice trip to celebrate your graduation. We went to Vegas to celebrate my last degree.

I have been invited to partake in several PhD programs, but am not ready/interested at this time. I am focused on obtaining my license and making some money. I am starting my therapist/consultant position this evening and am excited on this new avenue that was offered to me.

Thanks Everyone! Yes, my school is in Calif. It was called the Calif. School of Professional Psychology but they changed the name to Alliant International School when they "purchased" United States Intl University in San Diego. There are four major campuses and one satellite campus in Sacramento. They also have campuses in Africa and Mexico. I lived in Fresno for four years while I completed all of my coursework. I have since been working on my dissertation and completing my internship (as some of you know I was finally done with it in 2004). I never thought I would go this far. I was going to get my masters and stop with it. But then I decided to apply to one doctorate program and I was accepted. First, I was in the PsyD program, which is a more "hands on" doctorate degree with less emphasis on research. I switched over to the PhD program in 2000. This meant that I had to take research based classes, take more statistic courses as well as my dissertation. My doctorate is a "generalist" approach, which means that I have a wide range of experience and training. I can do therapy, psychological evaluations, program evaluations, consultation in a wide variety of topics, teach at a college or university and a multitude of other things. I would like to be involved in changing legislation relative to the domestic violence laws in Idaho. I feel that the laws are not good enough in my state. I feel strongly that more laws need to be enacted to protect the innocent victims of DV or potential victims. I won't get on my soap box now as I am too tired to step up there.

Hope I don't tire you with all this stuff.
