Here she is, photographed a few minutes ago and already wearing her "soft claws"...

Her tongue is sticking out b/c she's lost some teeth. It doesn't always stick out.
And here's Christie:

Also taken today. They hiss a lot, but haven't fought or slapped at each other. Christie is a LOT larger.

I am so glad you have got her at last. You will be a wonderful family for her. After what she has been through, poor little thing she deserves a bit of love and affection.
Just checked out the soft paws website...........what exactly are they? Are they some how stuck on like false finger nails? Sorry to be a bit thick here, but I have never heard of them in the UK.
Give your new little kitty a big hug from me.

Soft Claws slide on over the entire cat claw and have super glue insiede them before they are slid on. They stick almost immediately, so not much time before they are "set". It was easy to put them on. It's much better than declawing.
And here she is in Steve's lap...
Oh, and Sonja (Schnauzer) is so stupid she thinks she's Christy!!
So, no chasing there, thank heavens! She's be devastated, though, when she gets hissed at!

Of course her collar had to be Mardi Gras purple!

awww how cute. I am so glad she is home and Troy is going to keep her. She will be so happy there.
Did you hear about all of our rain. WOW it was one Yucky day. Flooding everywhere. It almost came in our back sliding doors.

My goodness, No! I hadn't heard about that! I only heard about the tornado near the Kenner airport just west of New Orleans. Closed Marilyn's school for a day. Gosh - water up to your sliding doors!!
It's been so warm up here, relatively speaking, that our crocuses are BLOOMING!!!
Glad she's home and Troy is keeping her. She looks happy in those photos and I know she will be well cared for.
I didn't know what soft claws where either -- Interesting. How long do they last under normal wear?
Wow Ginny... Hadn't heard about your rain. Crazy weather any more.
It's good she is home now. She looks so pretty. I've never heard of those claw caps, they are a wonderful invention.
I am glad she has her new home....
Shirley, she's gorgeous and looks like she's settled in:)

Roof collapse at Bed, Bath and Beyond

A roof collapse occurred at about 11 a.m. at a Bed, Bath and Beyond near the Tyrone Square Mall Friday morning.
Firefighters said 15 to 20 people were inside the store at the Crosswinds Center on 66th Street North when the roof collapsed near the cash register area.
The roof collapsed because about 4 inches of water was on it.
Witness Billy Alves said after the collapse, merchandise, including two cash registers, began floating out of the facility.
Everyone inside the store has been rescued, though one person was transported to Bayfront Medical Center after sustaining lacerations to their face. Also, a fireman reporting to the scene had to hospitalized after having a seizure. Search dogs were brought to the scene to ensure that everyone was accounted for.
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker said the situation could have been much worse.
"This is certainly something that you don't want to have happen, but again, the most important thing is human life," said Baker. "And I'm thankful so far that we haven't identified anyone seriously injured."
Friday's rain hampered cleanup efforts at the store. Employees at a nearby Marshalls store were also evacuated.
The Bed Bath and Beyond at the Crosswinds Center will remain closed until further notice, according to the company.

I live in Seminole....you can see at the bottom we had 12 inch. of rain. The water was ankle deep on both sides of my house. It has all soaked in and it was a real pretty day today. Then tonight it got a little cool. The low tonight is going to be about 47 and about 65 tomorrow.
Record-setting rain
Friday, February 3, 2006
http://www.bn9.com/images/news/2006/2/3/carsplash.jpgCars struggled to get through some of the flooded roads (http://www.bn9.com/images/news/2006/2/3/lgcarsplash.jpg).
Bay area residents continue to deal with the consequences of Friday's severe and continuous storms.
Roads were flooded since early Friday morning, resulting in some cars being stuck on roads (http://www.bn9.com/content/36/2006/2/3/142422.html), major traffic tieups (http://www.bn9.com/content/36/2006/2/3/142408.html), accidents (http://www.bn9.com/content/36/2006/2/3/142427.html), and roof collapses (http://www.bn9.com/content/36/2006/2/3/142392.html). There were also reports of hail.
Bands of rain continue to go through many parts of the Bay area, with some areas getting as much as 4 inches of rain per hour. Winds also are high, gusting up to 40 mph in some storms.

Parts of the Lealman area in Pinellas County have been evacuated. About 30 people near the area of 63rd Way North and 64th Street were forced out of their homes by 3 to 4 feet of floodwater.
Earlier, another 20 homes were evacuated in an area bounded by 55th and 57th Avenue North and 62nd to 65th Street North.
Numerous motorists have become stranded in their cars as they tried to navigate flood waters.
Confirmed rainfall totals include:
Kenneth City: 10 inches
Citrus Park: 7 inches
Clearwater: 8 inches
TIA: 8 inches
Lakeland: 4 inches
Furthermore, Pinpoint Doppler 9000 (http://www.baynews9.com/Doppler9000.html) estimates these rainful amounts:
Pinellas Park: 15 inches
Seminole: 12 inches
Largo: 10 inches
Friday was the fourth-wettest day on record in Tampa. Bay News 9 chief meteorologist Alan Winfield (http://www.baynews9.com/content/13/2002/7/15/46.html) said the Bay area received roughly as much rain in one day as in a typical four months during the dry season, or two months during the rainy season.
Many incoming and outgoing flights at TIA were delayed Friday, and Lakeland Linder Regional Airport grounded most local planes and business jet traffic.
On-and-off rain is in the forecast through mid-day Saturday, but that should subside as a cold front moves through. Tune in to Weather on the Nines (http://www.baynews9.com/Weather.html) for complete forecast information.
Despite the rain, there are no reports of major structural damage to homes or businesses in Hillsborough County. But Friday's torrential rains kept Tampa stormwater crews busy, working frantically to keep rainwater from flooding streets, homes and businesses.
http://www.bn9.com/images/news/2006/2/3/stormwater1.jpgTampa stormwater crews were busy Friday.
"Big problems," said Tampa stormwater department supervisor Leroy Lentz. "Sometimes we have to work day and night, 24 hours to keep the system clean and keep the water out of people's houses. That's our main thing, to keep the water out of people houses."
Stormwater workers normally work 10-hour days, four days a week, with many workers having Friday off. That added to the workload for stormwater department employees Friday.
OMG Ginny, that is terrible. I hope the two injured ones will be alright. Thank goodness no more people were injured.
We just saw on television they are expecting a more active hurricane season this year. That is scary.
Thank you for sharing it.

Hoping that you don't get anymore for a while.

Shhhhhhhhh Jean! No more hurricanes PLease!!!;)
Shirley, they are both beautiful!! What a lucky kitty, I'm glad Troy gets to keep her, I remember reading that they had bonded, how great!!!!!
Ginny, sorry about all the rain!!! We had our first real rain here too in months, don't think it was as much as you got though!!!
O Ginny -- With all the unusual weather you've been having down there that had to make you worry. Sure glad it soaked in and Saturday was nice.
Nice informative post, I enjoyed reading it. Wish it hadn't been about your area but if it hadn't guess I wouldn't have gotten to read it.:)
Ginny, I didn't realise you were still having problems, please take care:wub:
Here ,we have hosepipe bans as we are short of rain!

Good Heavens, Ginny! How did I miss that on CNN?? that's terrible! What's with our crazy weather?
As for the hurricane season... Marilyn already said... come June, they might change their minds about staying in New Orleans and having to go through this again... she's 57 and ready to have some peace of mind instead of the continual evac. orders and not knowing whether to heed them or not, you know the drill...
I sure do hope all the water doesn't do your house any harm... :tighthug:

they look a nail but are hollow and slip right over the dogs or cats real nail and have a blunt end so they can't damage floor or furniture..pretty cool invention. Our cats have full claws and we buy our furniture from the second hand store so i they scratch it it's not like we are out a lot of money..with dogs and cats we pretty much decided to not get brand spanking new furniture
Here are the soft claws for cats at Foster&Smith online pet supply place you can also order there catatlog to be sent to your home for fee they have one for each kind of animals I get their reptile, and bird catalog.
soft claws for cats they also make them for dogs..

Thanks guys. We are all fine. The only time we have to worry is if we get a LOT of rain in a short amount of time the yard and back porch flood. I am real worried about the hurricanes this year. They keep saying they are going to be worse then last year and that is real scary. The biggest thing is that big tree in our back yard.
I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks again for all your thoughts.

Thanks, Sadenna, for the link and more info for others... -- Troy had seen cats at college wearing them, and showed them to me online. Then, I was surprised to learn that both pet stores in Noblesville (small town) carry them!
Besides the furniture, we have the birds to worry about, even though she isn't allowed in that part of the house unsurpervised. She's been forced to hunt for the past 5 months, and is very quick when she wants to be. Also, Sonja loves cats, and shouldn't have her face scratched... and Christy is declawed.
They work amazingly well - just like she's been declawed. And she hasn't picked at them even once. :D

I had no idea that they made these, what a great alternative! I really hope people will start considering them more. I rememeber last year at our Petsmart they were having cat adoptions from a rescue and they wouldn't adopt out to anyone that would declaw them. I thought that was pretty cool. I remember one lady walking out complaining about it.
Both of my cats are declawed but I don't think I would do it again. I've had them for 12 years and at the time it was just "the norm" but now when I think about it, I think it's kinda cruel.
I'm so glad Katrina has such a great home and didn't think about the hunting aspect. Yikes!!!!
How long do they last? I mean like do they wear out and can you just take them off and put on new ones.
I think they are cool as heck :) just wondering is all.
