How does one

turn off the e-mail notification mode for members replying to a thread or a post?

I tried selecting "no email" on this setting:

"Default Thread Subscription Mode
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.

And I still get email notifications. What am I doing wrong?

Joe, that changes the default setting for new threads. It doesn't change the settings for threads you've already subscribed to.

Go to this link (You can also get to it from your user CP) and click on the box on the right for the threads you want to change...

If I unsubscribe to a thread/post, the notifications will stop? How does one not automatically subscribe to a thread/post?

You don't have to unsubscribe, just change the type of notification.

I think I figured it out. I went into the same box and selected "do not subscribe" or something like that.
