SWEET POTATO PUFFS

Bake or boil a large sweet potato until soft. Peel and "mash" with:

1 cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds, pine nuts)
1 banana
1 cup Grape-nuts cereal
Add unsweetened apple juice to make the proper consistency to be moist but hold together. Use a melon baller or roll in your hands to make balls or "puffs". Shake them in a bag of seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes, and a little raw wheat germ. Serve or freeze for later use. You can add your birds' favorite treats to this recipe.

I did not have the Grape-nuts cereal don`t even know what it is BUT added 1/2 cup rolled oats and crushed 1/2 cup of the T.O.P pellets I got from the states and added it I guess you can improvise , I rolled them in seed too didn`t toss them in a bag and freeze 2 in a bag i each for the boys zap them for 1 min in the m/w ..make sure they are not too hot in the middle before giving them to the fids...

I made this last night. Well,, I didn't have the banana or juice lol. So, we'll see how it goes, I added just a little bit of peanut butter to try and hold it together and rolled them in chopped nuts. Thanks for the recipe!:D

The nice thing about this recipe you can add and switch ingredients to try different
tastes or use what you have on hand.

Yep, they were a huge hit!! Sammy is still a little unsure but it didn't help that I was eating an apple at the time and he seemed to have a craving for that. My Pionus has not left her dish in like 20 minutes now, now that's a rarity. Sh eats fresh foods but I've never seen her demolish anything like this before. Einstein, he pigged out too, even had seconds! Thanks for the recipe, I guess it's good even without the banana and juice.:agree:
