What a day, was busy doing housework today and as always was talking to Bucc, after a while I realised that he wasn't making a sound, wondered what he was up to, so stopped what I was doing and went to look on his high perch (used to be my curtain pole, before Bucc) not there, started looking everywhere, no where in sight, went upstairs just in case he had heard Luke and gone up to see him. NO not up there either. By this time started to panic, Had I left a window open somewhere, checked and no, had I shut him in the cupboard, no, as I came racing downstairs, check kitchen just in case, as I passed his cage, tears streaming down my face and in a state of real terror, there he was............. sitting in his cage. He has NEVER done that before, and only a few weeks ago I was having so much trouble getting him IN the cage!!!! He was sat on his swing sound asleep, obviously I was boring him!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway panic over and I never want to feel that sort of terror again,
Oh my goodness! What a terrible scare, a lost parrot "somewhere" in the house makes your heart drop. I've had that happen a couple times before. Bucc is a good boy that knew right where to go.
I lost Elvie in the house last year and was frantic like you. I was bawling like a baby when I couldn't find him. It took me about 10 minutes to finally find him. He was behind the dust ruffle playing under our bed. He took one of his toys with him so, no wonder he wouldn't answer until he heard me crying and calling for him. He was having a good time. He loves to cuddle up and play in an enclosed area.

OMG Peta, what a terrible scare!!
Well, on the upside, guess what you have been doing w/getting him to go in his cage worked :p Akeela will do that too, go in her cage in her spot to nap, and if she's on the cage at night and tired, will put herself to bed.
Little stinker, he was being a good boy, even if he put a scare on mum ;)

 I can laugh about it all now, but what a scare, I ended up thinking all sorts. I wish I was thinking a bit clearer, then I could have taken pics of him sleeping, and then when he woke and his sweet little face. Don't think he knew what was going on, all I wanted to do was grab him out of the cage and give him such a big cuddle, but I thought if I did that I might end up squeezing the life out of him, poor little mite. At least I've got the cage thing right lol:agree:

I'm so glad he wasn't "really lost!" I lost Tucker 'tiel the other day... he's not flighted... or so I thought... and I'd left him on his playgym on top of his large fight cage. Well, I sort of forgot about him and went to work in my studio. Later I came out and Steve had come home and asked where Tucker was... we looked around for awhile, and then there he was, happily and quietly perched on TOP of Skyler's tall cage, on his playgym!! We figured he had climbed up there, but he demonstrated he could fly from his playgym to Skyler's!
OMG don`t post headings like that my heart went into my throat ....Scared me half silly...
Glad he was just lost ....and not LOST.....lol..

I'm sorry Majj, all day today he was in and out of his cage, and staying there, One minute I can't get him in and now I can't keep him out. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b166/parrotgirl/lol_2_red.gif I guess as long as he's happy that's fine and the doors are open so he can get in and out as he likes. I really didn't mean to scare you. I'm sorry
OMG, I got a scare too!!!!, so glad he's fine.
If only they knew what they do to us:eek:
When Toto got a new cage, I came in the room to find him nowhere to be seen, i had left him in the cage while I worked otherwise I would have no house left:rofl: but the door was locked and he was "gone"
I experienced the same panic as you Peta when I noticed the grill in the bottom of the cage had been moved, the little stinker had only pushed the grill out so he could climb down to the bottom tray and jump onto the floor. I found him between the curtain and the chair next to his cage:rofl: :roflmao2: Like Elvie, he likes to burrow in enclosed spaces.
What really scared me is, if it had happened a week earlier, I wouldn't have been here, as I had a meeting and was gone the whole day. Imagine the devastation Dave would have arrived home to.:yikes: :yikes:
Luckily , the chair and curtains were in tact and needless to say, I padlocked the tray to the cage:highfive:

I won't go into all the times I couldn't find one of the guys for a few minutes. I do know the scare it gives you. :)

That is the one thing that I am always so careful off, Bucc is always on either my shoulder or head that whenever I go to the door I always check to make sure that he isn't there. I've read so much about people forgetting that their bird was on them and going out and bird flying off. I'm over cautious, better that then having him get out. I think I would die :agree: Although thinking about it now its funny but I don't ever want to feel that fear again. Now when he goes real quiet the first place I look is his cage.
