well, he has shown he is understanding things that go on around our house, lol. I go to call my dog, and he's over there whistling for her, hehehe

It's so cute :D

I also updated a bit on my site for pluckers, some you have seen some of the pics but the ones in the end were taken at the end of Aug. http://www.freewebs.com/amazing_grey/sinbadsstory.htm He has the most feathers on his back that he's ever had, and got some sprigs on his chest too. Although he gets them in, time and situations does take a toll on him still. He is bonding GREAT to me and I adore his company, he loves to go on our outside morning walks in the backyard, and is doing GREAT with showers daily. He trusts me completely in the shower and will just sit on my hand and hang out under the water, almost enjoying the water on him. :agree: I let him hang out on the shower door when we are done to let him dry off in the warmer room, and by the time I come back he's fast asleep...awwww lol

Oh and a little piggie, he still is, roflol. He will go eat ALL his mash and go to Akeela's cage to pick, THEN want to come and eat my food :shrug2: ya think he's got a hole in his foot??hehehehe

Awww Barb, your little guy sounds as adorable as ever. It's good to read his update about his bonding, vocabulary and feather growth. He's such a sweet, timid, loving little guy. I am so glad you have him to pamper and shower with your love.

yes, it is GR8 to see him blossom, but not w/out hard work to get him where his even now. He is definately a challenge keeping him feeling safe and happy. He is just now starting to really open up to let us know what his needs are, and trust me, he is very particular to where he likes to hang out and such. He DOES NOT like the parrot tower or any plastics, only wood or my chair :p (or on the playtop) He hasn't gone into Akeela's cage but 1 or 2 times, but Akeela will sure go into his, lol. Someday he might

I did go through and pack more toys in his cage, and at 1st it took him a bit to want to go in, but will go back in now w/no problems. You can tell he's not as adjusted as Akeela, and poor guy just gets so afraid at times.

I've started giving him naps (after his shower) during the day, so he can rest more, which makes him feel better.

Aren't those last pics amazing??

thanks Kristie, Lana & Sue

He is a really good bird, but with special needs. It will take alot of time for him not to ever go back to the way he was. Something could set him off again and pluck all his feathers out again, he's just that way and the way he deals w/things. It's very sad at times when he gets his feathers in, and goes back to they way he was, then gets his feathers in and the vicious cycle begins again. But at least I can say that w/each time, he does let more feathers come in, still usually after a molt.

I've tried homeopathics on him from a professional herbalist, but I don't think the mix was right or did much, I'm considering trying the "Pluck No More" remedy and see how that works and a just in case, poor guy needs something to calm him at times he gets so nervous. :shrug2: Also when he's in his cage lets say in the morning and I don't get him out quick enough than he wants, he will still go to shred his feathers, sometimes still pinning his wing :( That horrifies me and don't like to see him do that.

Most of the other times he's just peachy and does great

Hi Barb,

I would like to try putting Oliver in the bathtub instead of the shower. I just don't know how much water there should be in the tub before I put him in. Could you please give me an idea? Thank you very much.

:thanx:

well ya caught me off guard Lana, on that question, hehehe

Ya wanting to give him a bath??

If he doesn't like showers or a shower perch, I would go ahead and try putting him in the bottom of the tub, just no water maybe place a towel down so he doesn't slip and feel uncomfortable and mist him that way. Or even lay a towl on the toilet and spray him there. That's how I started w/Sinbad. He didn't like the shower perch at all and getting wet that way, so that's what I did. Then as he got used to it and didn't try to flap to get away, I would mist on the shower door.

He loves getting sprayed now!! I make a game out of it and say "get it" as I spray him. He gets really spunky and sometimes I even let him get the end of the sprayer so it makes him think he's got some control, hehehe

Like I said, he also will step up on my hand while I'm in the shower and get wet that way, but no perch, he likes mama holding him :p

hth, feel free to ask more

Hi Barb,

Thank you so much for the tips. Before I moved, Oliver and Joey already got used to the shower hose. At my new place, I have not had time to have someone install the hose for me yet. I used to put Oliver on the perch made from a PVC pipe. He is fine with it. Then I rinsed him with the light rain shower. At the new place the shower is too strong and I could not rinse him at the bottom part. Thus I think giving him a bath is a perfect idea. I am picturing it like a bird bath that people put on their yards. I tried putting him in a bath tub already but I guessed I did not have enough water. I had to use my hand to get water in the tub and put on his back. Then he started screaming!

I think I may try the spray bottle, making it like a mist. Hmm... will see how he will react. My guess is he may scream but hopefully he will get used to it.

I used to hold him on my hand when I took a shower. He was kind of okay. Perhaps I should do that more often.

I put more of their pics on the link below. Please check them out.

Very best to you and your gang,

Lana
