Shadow is a Congo African Grey who came to live with us on July 19. He's incredibly sweet and definitely my husband's bird (he so obviously adores him, and hubby feels the same way, he really wanted a grey of his own, since they're his favorite bird)!

He is 13 and always lived with his last momma until she became deathly allergic about two years ago. After two years of internal debate, she decided the best thing she could do for him was to rehome him. After she rejected several people, she met us. We interviewed over the phone, then in person and got to meet Shadow. He talked to us and was very sweet and we fell in love. She and her husband decided that we were the ones and Shadow came to live with us after his vet visit. It was very hard on his old momma, but we love him very much and are so glad he lives with us now.

Shadow is very talkative, his favorite words being "Okay", "Cool!" and "What?". He has entire phone conversations with himself, lol: *ring ring* "Hello? Cool! Hold on, I'll get her. Okay." *beep* (he'll say other things, use several voices, take incoming calls, etc.) He meows and will meow like a momma cat if I say "Here kitty, kitty." He likes to dance, and likes Smashing Pumpkins, 30 Seconds to Mars and some other random music.

When Shadow came to us, he hadn't been handled much in two years, his step up response was non-existent and he would fly off when we tried to get him to step up. 4 days of patience, persistence and one wing trim later, he was laddering like a pro and stepped up on cue like he'd never stopped doing it. He's very sweet, although he gets mad at me for going near his cage and will bite me for it (he only did real damage once when his hormones first kicked in, but he used to only grab fingers and move them when he wasn't in the mood for interaction--he wouldn't dream of biting my fiance, though). He's so much fun and seems to like it here okay.

He loves bananas, fruit juice, cartoons, The Daily Show on comedy central (he loves political humor it seems), rope toys, the rope perch he got for Christmas that he's nearly demolished and his 'daddy'. Sometimes he likes me to lay in the bed and have conversations with him. He'll even come over and sit in bed next to me to talk to me better (I do most of the talking, but he'll give me imput from time to time). He uses my voice a lot now (since I'm the 'rival', he uses it more than hubby's, but he's started using his as well). He started saying "I love you" when we go to bed and get up in the morning very recently. If I come to bed really late, he asks if I'm okay. He likes to grab my finger through the bars of his cage and have me rub his toes. This is the only way he lets me pet him on his cage--he lets me start with toes, rub his leg and then his chest and finally his head.

All in all, he's a great addition to our flock. I may have been wary of adding a large bird to the house (I'm all for the conure-sized myself) but he's an important member of this family and I wouldn't ever want to NOT have him.
