she is a hoot, Caiques are alot of fun so much personality and energy in a small package they think they are big birds but also have a tendecie to bully other birds and even non-bird animals..Mango one night was sitting on my husbands shoulder, well Lab mix came up to hubby for some good old fashioned ear rubs and Mango leaped off of hubby's shoulder, beak open wings out hubby caught her mid air thank goodness poor dog was not doing anything but trying to get some lovins to..and now when mango is on a playstand and the dog walks by she puts her wings out, pins her eyes and stalks the poor dog from the playstand. they do have a feisty side to them. Mango is definanty my hubby's bird as he can do alot more with her than I can, but I can handle her and play with her just fine...she really loves my mother inlaw she does not hesitate to hop on my Mother Inlaws shoulder, slide down Mother Inlaws arm and roll over on her back for some tummy rubs she also regurges for my mother inlaw..lol
Awwww. she sounds like a little firecracker! At least she's affectionate with people.

She sounds like my hubby's pionus except she stalks all of us, nobody is good enough to go near her except him.:) I do love that picture though, it gave me a good chuckle! I can just imagine whta he was thinking.:funny:
Maybe it's something about mom's. My mom is a (for lack of better words) pleasure magnet for my birds, it's sooooooo weird! Leah

she is so beautifull. their such little clowns. must keep you on your toes thats for sure. alot of what ive read states that if you let them get away with something once its a pain to get them to stop lol. I love how quirky and personable they are

Yeah they are really good at testing the waters and pushing boundries you have to keep on them all the time, it's easy for a caique to quickly get out of hand and sometimes once they turn into a nasty, biting little bird it's hard to get them back as a pet.
They are a lot of fun, very quirky, pesonable, acrobatic and all around little clowns.....

Yeah They can also go on overload very quickly and get pinchy what I do with ours when she gets in that overload state is I put her on a play area for a few minutes to chill out till she calms back down.
They are alot of fun, can be a challenge somedays but alot of fun...

Im buying a cage with a play area on top and im going to buy a pile of toys that are going to be attached to the walls and ceilings on top of it so she/he has a huge jungle gym to burn off excess energy on. I cant wait. seems long but i do really need 5 months to get everything ready and perfect.

Oh yeah the more toys the merrier for a caique I have seen caiques try to play with 3-4 toys all at the same time it's a riot to watch they love to play so yep the more toys the better.
I consider caique the big bird in the little birds body they have no fear and have no problems confronting anyone or anything larger than they are lol they think they are 10 feet tall and invincable.

I was reading your posts on introductions, yes caiques are not labled the best talkers but some can and do learn to talk, ours says a few words and that has been of the last 6 months and she is 3yrs old it's like somone opened a flood gate..lol it's not clear but more like garbled and helium sounding is the best description.
When it comes to talk either they will or they won't and it seems no matter how much you talk to them or around them they just don't pick up anything, but then some will pick up words they hear often or many times pick up things they hear in the household during general conversations amongst people in the house...you just never know your soon to be caique could be the silent type...or a blabber mouth lol.

Ill love him or her either way. I eventually want an african grey. i just absolutely love them. ive always liked the Macaw's but I know nothing about em. everything ive heard points to them being birds that are really hard to care for.

We have two Congo African Greys, Holly (4) and Sammy (1). Holly was just weaned when we got her and she's bonded to me, but will step up on her terms for others - they can't pet her, though. She finally allowed Dr. Cook to scritch her neck the other day, but she hasn't allowed my husband to do that, yet she'll play with him otherwise.
I raised Sammy from 5 weeks onward, and once he started flying well, he flew to Steve and has been his bird ever since! He doesn't allow me to pet him anymore.
Sammy talks up a storm quietly. Holly talks very little but can imitate anything in the sound effects category - water dripping, phone, microwave, water sprayer, etc. She whistles songs every day, but Sammy has never whistled.
Both learn new things very quickly. Neither are noisy, imo.
Mango is adorable, I love Caiques:heart:
There are some at a place we visit and they are so cheeky and funny, they land on you and steal your food:p

I love that they all have different personalities. Im looking at a cockatiel who is looking for a good home. Im seriously thinking about it. would give me good practice for my Caique who's coming. Only thing is our blood python is going to the vet because of a resparatory infection so it might not happen. all depends on the outcome of the vet visit. im planning for a shot of baytril but if its anything else it might cost us a pretty penny, anything to get her well again and eating. she's starting to love muscle mass and were really worried.

Losing muscle mass is very scary indeed! I hope she does well at the vet's... :tighthug:

Reptiles go downhill very slowly, usually, and herp vets are still discovering the best antibiotics, analgesics, etc... what works for a bird/dog/cat may have no effect on a herp.

Deffinetly. and not many vets even know much about them. i took my vet tech course and knew more than all the vet techs training me(About reptiles). I left the course though because i didnt like the way it was being taught.
