This is Opie or as my hubby calls him "The Opinator" since he does not like hubby and tries to get him whenever hubby services his cage...

Opie is so cute. Tell me more about him. How old is he? How long have you had him?

Opie is about 5-6 years of age, he is pretty quiet except when he wants to be heard then he does perfect gold capped conure imitation as that is what his next door neighbor was in his previous home, we have not had opie quite a year yet. How he came into our lives is the I work for a lady who raises birds in her home..well a very good friend of hers had found out her cancer had come back and was going to need to down size her flock..well the gal I work for took in Opie, some tiels and a couple Caiques..well as it turned out Opied did not like anyone but seemd to show some interest in me..well he would pace back and forth and jibber jabber at me, so I got him out one day he immediately started to regurge for me and then proceeded to mate with my hand..this went on for a couple weeks he wold come out of the cage and hang off the front of my shirt while I cleaned cages at work, and talk and jabber all the while..well the gal I work for told me to go ahead and take him home since he liked me so much..so I talked to hubby and hubby was fine with it so next day hubby came to work with me to meet Opie well Opied stepped up wonderfully for my husband and was very well behaved..well things changed when we got home Opie knew who to suck up to..lol to be able to come home with us and that person was hubby, first day home Opie nailed him a good one...and from that day he is always trying to get hubby and it's a race to see who can get to the food dishes first Opie or hubby to get them out to fill them..so far hubby is faster than Opie

Sadennna, Opie is beautiful!! I didn't realize their bellies developed so much color! Is this as they get older?
Also, what do you feed him? I've heard the Poicephalus aren't supposed to have hardly any of the seeds/nuts/grains ... ??
Thanks so much!

he gets what all my other birds get..seeds, pellets, fresh veggies, cooked brown rice, bird bread and everything else I feed and he is healthy as can be..they are prone to obesity like other african birds, amazons also can be prone to obesity..so you do have to watch the fat intake but my birds the base is pellets and they get a small scoop of seeds in the evening as their seed treat and of course their fresh foods.

Thanks! so we don't have to feed her differently from the others? the others get the sprouts, fresh veggies daily in addition to their Roudybush and Goldenfeast Hookbill Legume...
