I have found my bigger birds will sometimes pick and toss when it comes to fresh veggies in their bowls and then they have days where they eat it all, so I decided to try something different to get them to clean their bowls without picking and tossing. Thats when I got the idea of running the veggies through the food chopper for everyone not just my smaller birds, with the veggies in small pieces they work nicely mixing in with cooked brown or wild rice and even mix well in pastas here is a picture collage I did today when I did the birds veggies I try and vary the veggies as much as I can , today it was Endive, brocholii,zuccini,red bell pepper and golden yams http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/sadenna/Misc2/veggies.png

this mix I sprinkled over a scoop of steamed mashed acorn squash with some flax seed sprinkled on top..

I love your pictures!!!

I've been doing the "small pieces" thing for a long time b/c of the the "tossing" problem. Small portions and small pieces... sort of how I fed my boys when they were "high chair/booster seat" age.

Your "presentation" is YUMMY!!!!!:woot::thanx::bestpost:

:goodjob: Beautiful presentation! Do you ever add boiled,chopped chicken breasts to your veges?

I chop Elvie's tiny too. Sometimes they are easier to get them down him when I mash them with sweet potatoes or squash. Picky cockatoo!

A salad fit for a king! My crazy Cockatiel absolutely refuses to eat any veggies at all. I've tried everything, even a recipe I received where everything is cooked and pureed together with special "bird tempting" seasonings...it was guaranteed to be loved by the most finicky of birds - well not Da'Birdie! He avoided it like a plague! He's a seed boy, but he does eat the food sticks that have some veggies/fruits in them. He will eat some pellet food as well....I wish I had trained him to pellet food early on. But he never accepted fruits or veggies. Anyone have any suggestions for my spoiled little monster?

My smaller birds such as Tucker 'Tiel who didn't like veggies loved sprouts, which then turned them on to loving veggies. Sprouts are larger than seeds, as are veggies. Mine like them thawed or fresh, not pureed or mushy.

My sprouts are explained in the Practical Links and/or Elements of Bird Care forums, and you'll probably have to use the drop-down menu to go back to the beginning of the board to see the posts as they were posted back in May or June sometime.

Wow Sadenna that's a great Idea! I might try that with bob.

I actually bought a juicer/ blender about 2 years ago, decided it wasn't as good as I thought it would be and haven't used it since!
Its time I got my moneys worth.
Vegetable smoothie anyone ? :p

you know making a veggie smoothie is how I got my tiels to first accept veggies as they were seed junkie thats all they would eat,,they loved it by itself, spooned over cooked brown rice. I also sprinkling a bit of millet over the finely chopped veggies and mixing some in can entice them to eat it, also eating veggies in front of them and making a big deal about how good it is can help to my birds always seem to want to eat off my plate so I make sure I have something good on their for them...

This was written by a friend of mine ,she also suggest seed to mixed with the veggies

With my veggies that are chopped I alos mix in some flax seed, hemp seed, and some millet some seed mixed in can entice some picky eaters to try it as they are getting at the seed they will taste the veggies.I have found grinding down the veggies has been more enticing for my birds they tend to eat alot more and are not able to toss what they don't like. I am feeding 10 birds and they all get a good heaping spoonfull of veggies today it was ground veggies mixed with brown rice, lentils, split peas, flax seed, hemp seed..somedays I don't mix the veggies just offer plain.

Wish I had seen the link before, It took me 2 1/2 years to get Errol and Flynn to even look at veggies and not think I was trying to poison them. Never even gave it a thought to blend them. :doh: They do now eat their veggies and love them by the way,
