So Popeye the Maroon Bellied Conure is here!! Hes settling in very well. He came from a Breeder friend of mine who bought him to breed but sold her female. I didnt Quarenteen this guy as hes been in her flock for a year and I Know she hasnt gotten any new birds since. Hes settling in well. I love watching him eat banana with his food XD. He usually stays as far as he can from me but ive been talking gently to him and at one point he came to the closest point he could to me to investigate.

I bet he'll come around soon.

I just have to point out that Maroon Bellies are my favorite conure. So you have my favorite species (cockatiel) in my favorite mutations, and then my favorite conure. Are you intentionally torturing me?

yup tottally XD.

Lol this little guy looks like he is 9 years old. i have to look closer at his band for a confirmation as it has his year of birth. His whole stomach and Butt are just down feathers no feathers. But she said hes been like that since shes gotten him. I havent seen him plucking. nor any feathers in his tent. He preens heathilly not over the top, no feathers on the bottom of his cage like my cockatiels right now(their molting lol).

He loves to have his morning bath so I gave him a huge stainless steel water dish so he can soak better instead ofthat tiny plastic one that slides in the cage. And am using that dish for his fresh foods.

Hes loving the mash and birdie bread and yesterday my flock got thawed cranberries and it was adorable to watch him eat it with his feet. He would pick one up then make his way up to the top of the cage where his water dish is to eat his food and take a drink at the same time. Hed even do that with his pellets!!.

Both Al and I are tottally smitten with him. And even though he doesent play with toys(Ive put 3 in there for now) he does seem to be very social and will respond to outside stimulus. Its just if hands come into play that hell react and hes not that bad with hands as well because when we rescued charlie if you waved hands outside the cage he would hiss and everything. Popeye doesent react to hands that are outside his cage only inside. and even inside he only moves away to another corner he doesent cower like charlie used to.

I think with patience and understanding hed come around. That and REALLY good treats! lol. I just need to think of how to start.
