Diet food

I would like to know what brand of diet food are you using to feed your finches. Well, I got Hartz Vita-Mix from Petco.com and have been serving it for about two weeks now. My birds are not crazy about this food. Its almost gone and I want to order a different kind of diet food.


Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I now use KayTee finch seed. Actually I mix half and half finch seed with the parakeet seed and use it for all my finches and grasskeets. Of course I supplement it with fresh vegetables and/or spouted millet, plus egg food, etc.

KayTee is lower in protein than some of the other brands, but many of those brands include colored seed and/or dried fruit or veggies which none of my birds eat (and thus waste a lot of it). Also the colors come off when wet and thus is not allowed in show cages. Besides the chucks of dried fruit and veggies clog up my seed hoppers. I finally found a feed store that will order KayTee for me in 25# bags.

I mix the two (finch and keet) and then 'package' it into plastic gallon jugs (milk jugs) and put it in the deep freeze to store (keeps all the insects out and the seed fresh).
